Troy D. Sorenson VIEW PROFILE

Troy David Sorensen, 60, of Altoona, Iowa, passed away on January 4, 2024. He was born on February 3, 1963, in Sioux City, Iowa, to David and Vonna (Durston) Sorensen.

Troy was a funny, caring, and loving individual who lived life as a free spirit. He cherished spending time with his children, Shiloh (Tayler), Elijah (Chloe), and Savannah (Miles), as well as his stepchildren, Heather Burns (Tyler) and Cody Stoler and his Grandchildren, Wrenley, Braxton and Ella. Troy was also deeply devoted to his fiancée, Helene 'Lea' Stoler, and his first wife, Elena Bird-Sorensen. He held a special bond with his sister, Starr Linn Peters (Sorensen), and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

In his leisure time, Troy enjoyed various hobbies, including cooking, especially BBQ, listening to vinyl records, reading, writing, drawing, wood working, and playing darts. His vibrant personality and diverse interests made him a cherished friend to many.

Troy graduated from North High School in Sioux City, Iowa in 1981. He later embarked on a successful career, working at Drake University in Plant Operations and Maintenance. Additionally, he spent many years at UnityPoint Methodist as a talented Carpenter.

Memorial services honoring Troy's life will be held on Saturday, January 20th, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Iles Dunn's Chapel, located at 2121 Grand Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa. The family will be meeting at Wellmans on Ingersoll following the visitation and would like to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to get a drink and help remember Troy.

Through his unique spirit and warm heart, Troy touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
